The Isle of Man's inaugural corporate pickleball league, sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth, came to a close last week following a successful debut season that brought together island businesses.

Bringing together eight teams from businesses across the island, the league provided a unique opportunity for professionals to enjoy friendly competition, build new connections and support workplace wellbeing through one of the world's fastest-growing sports.

Over 10 weeks, teams battled it out on the courts at the Roundhouse in Braddan, with players of all abilities embracing the chance to represent their organisations and compete in a fun and inclusive environment.

Following weeks of competitive play, independent tax advisory practice Conexus emerged as the league's first champions, with estate agents Black Grace Cowley finishing runners-up.

Nedbank Private Wealth sponsored the league as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that bring people together as well as encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Head of wealth management at Nedbank Private Wealth Karim Chowdhury said: ‘We were delighted to sponsor the Isle of Man's first Corporate Pickleball League and to see the enthusiasm with which it was embraced by the local business community.

‘The league brought together people from a wide range of organisations, creating opportunities to build connections, support wellbeing and enjoy some healthy competition.

‘It was fantastic to see the camaraderie that developed throughout the season and we were proud to play a part in making the league possible.’

Pickleball has experienced significant growth internationally in recent years thanks to its accessibility, social nature and appeal to players of all ages and abilities. That growth has increasingly been reflected in the island, with more people discovering the sport and taking part in organised competitions.

Manannan’s Pickleball Club’s Neil Ronan added: ‘We've seen a massive improvement in players across the league, including many who were completely new to pickleball.

‘A lot of hard work went on behind the scenes to make it happen, and it's been rewarding to see so many people embrace the sport. Hopefully this is just the start and we'll continue to see pickleball grow across the island.’

Organisers say the success of the inaugural Corporate Pickleball League has laid strong foundations for future competitions and further growth of the sport in the island, with many participants already expressing interest in returning for future events.
