Manx journalist James Davis, who used to work for the island’s newspapers, has joined Isle of Man Advertising & PR as head of media.

The company has also appointed of Stephanie Haslett, 23, to its public relations team as media executive.

James, 41, was born and educated in the Isle of Man and studied journalism at Sheffield.

He worked at Isle of Man Newspapers, moving to join Manx Radio in 2003.

His appointment sees him replace John Quirk, another former Isle of Man Newspapers man, who has left to become a freelance writer after 12 years with Isle of Man Advertising & PR.

James said: ‘Media is in my genes.

‘My mother was a former women’s editor for the Manx Independent and my uncle is a journalist for Sky Sports.

‘My great grandfather also wrote the horticultural column for the Ramsey Courier.

‘My new role with Isle of Man Advertising & PR will involve working with the media, rather than as part of the media – and it’s an exciting and diverse challenge which I’m really looking forward to.’

Helen Summerscales, managing director at Isle of Man Advertising & PR, said: ‘We are thrilled that James has agreed to join us.

‘ With James having a similar background to John, it will provide a seamless transition for the company and our clients.’ James is heavily involved in the island’s music and theatre scene.’

Stephanie Haslett graduated with a first-class marketing degree from Newcastle University last year and has since slotted into the team, writing news releases, website content and developing a social media strategy for a range of clients.

With industry experience in a marketing and communications agency, she has also worked in areas such as account management, event management and media planning and buying.

Stephanie said: ‘My experience at Isle of Man Advertising & PR so far has been great.

‘From the moment I started, I have felt part of the team and have already been involved with some really exciting projects – no two days are the same.’
