Taking voluntary redundancy from Manx Telecom has opened up new challenges for enterprising Rowan Caley who has embarked on her first solo business venture.

Mother-of-one Rowan, 37, has opened a dog daycare centre in Peel.

It is called Moddey Mie Doggy Daycare and she explains this is Manx gaelic for Good Dog.

Talking to Business News, animal lover Rowan said she is putting her heart and soul into the enterprise which is based in a warehouse in Mill Road.

Rowan, who had previously been with Manx Telecom for around 18 years, working in the residential sales department.

But the opportunity arose to take voluntary redundancy in 2016 and Rowan, who has a son, Shayne, 20, decided to go for it.

Last year she took part in a micro-business course run by what was then the Department of Economic Development.

It is now the Department for Enterprise and Rowan said she was delighted with the help and guidance offered by her mentor who keeps in regular touch.

Rowan, who attended Peel’s QE2 school, said: ‘I love dogs so thought this would be a good venture to get involved in. I had looked at changing my career and this is the result.’

Rowan lives with her partner Jimmy Moughtin, who works for Peel Commissioners, at St John’s.

He is fully supportive of Rowan’s ambitions.

Rowan, whose parents have a farm in St John’s and has two dogs of her own called Ren and Stimpy, is also getting the business known through social media including Facebook. The doggy daycare business is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

Rowan can be contacted on 471470.
