First-time marathon runner and head of investment at WHIreland Wealth Management, David Bushe was one of the Manx competitors in the London Marathon.

Running on behalf of Hospice Isle of Man, novice entrant David completed the event in just over four hours.

He raised £6,842 for Hospice from his valiant efforts.

While admitting to harbouring an ambition to run a marathon for some time, it was a lucky draw in the London Marathon ballot that sealed his determination.

With a training programme that involved more than 500 miles running and over 1,000 miles cycling during the winter months, David was in good shape when he took to the start line with more than 42,000 others.

David said it had been an amazing day that surprisingly went very fast.

He said: ’It seemed over in the blink of an eye.

’It felt like I had hardly started when I was heading down the Embankment to the finish.

’Five months of training and it was over in a flash.

’I’m extremely grateful to everyone who sponsored me and gave me that extra motivation to succeed.

’I ran the race in memory of my dad, who passed away with cancer in 2004.

’I know first-hand what a fantastic service Hospice provides so the money is going to a very good cause.’
