Andreas Meat Company has got off to a flying start in its 35th year of business, having achieved SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) accreditation status.

The company, which has been supplying Manx meats to the local market since 1984, has welcomed the accreditation, which comes at a key stage in its evolution.

SALSA is a food safety standard created by industry experts, which gives guidance and support to small food and drink producers looking to supply to regional and national buyers.

Andreas Meat Co. – formerly M & K Poultry - was founded by Norman and Rita Morrey and John Faloon, they are all still active directors.

Managing director Emma Corkill, who has been with the company since 2013, studied Agriculture at Reaseheath College in Cheshire before returning home to develop her career.

Emma said: ‘The SALSA accreditation acknowledges the high level of practice and food safety Andreas Meat Company has been dedicated to as a company.

‘Together, as a team, we have worked really hard to achieve this, and are delighted with the recognition.

‘The accreditation will not only allow us to supply retailers who require these accreditation standards; it will also signify recognition of our high standards, providing customers with confidence in our products’.

Focusing on SALSA accreditation is just one of the ways in which Emma and the team have been investing in the future.

The company has also been in the process of expanding its factory site to create new and improved facilities, which will help to ensure sustainable growth.

‘Supporting Isle of Man agriculture and the meat sector is extremely important to us.

‘Our site development and new SALSA status send out the message that we remain committed to supporting farming families and adding economic value throughout the island.’
