Manx Radio’s new boss has been appointed.

Chris Sully, former volunteer Radio Caroline presenter, is the state-subsidised station’s new managing director.

Bill Mummery, the chairman of Manx Radio, said: ’He joins us at a pivotal time in the development of public service broadcasting and the nation’s station.

’With this appointment we go into 2019 well-equipped for the challenges and opportunities that the year presents.’

The announcement of Mr Sully’s appointment comes two days after Tynwald voted to secure Manx Radio's future, having rejected a select committee's radical plan for public service broadcasting.

For a full report on that, see today’s Manx Independent.

Mr Sully has had a 28-year career with British Forces Broadcasting Services [BFBS], having held station management roles in Belize, Cyprus, Germany, Northern Ireland, The Falkland Islands and the UK.

In his leisure time he has, for a number of years, supported in a voluntary role Radio Caroline as a presenter under the pseudonym Chris Pearson.

He replaces Anthony Pugh.

Manx Radio’s subvention from the government is £875,000 a year.
