The number of people out of work in the Isle of Man has gone down again.

According to the latest government statistics, there were a total of 495 unemployed in June.

That’s 112 down on the month before and 638 fewer than 12 months earlier.

It equates to an unemployment rate of 1.2%. The unemployment rate is the proportion of the economically active population registered unemployed.

During the month, 1,183 jobs were notified to the Job Centre. At the end of the month, 746 were not filled.

The International Labour Organisation unemployment rate calculation - which includes people who are not registered as unemployed - is 2.2%. The most recent equivalent figure in England was 4.7%.

There seems to be a big shortage of workers in two main areas. There were 148 people needed in catering entertainment at the end of the month. In medical and health services there were 169 vacancies.
