A rare Roger Smith watch is coming up at auction in Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday. (May 8)
Mr Smith, who is based in the north of the island, said the timepiece is ‘a particularly important watch from my career’.
Auction house Phillips lists the watch as lot number 145 and describes it as ‘an incredibly rare and attractive rectangular white gold wristwatch with retrograde date’.
Estimates for the watch, made in 2005, range between 40,000 and 80,000 Swiss Francs or 43,600 to 87,300 US dollars.
Acclaimed horologist Mr Smith said: ‘Periodically, one of my watches comes available for auction and, very rarely, it happens to be one of the more significant pieces I’ve made during my career.
‘When our friends at Phillips informed me that the sole White Gold Series 1 “Theo Fennell” edition had been offered for auction, I was intrigued and felt I should share the news with my clients.’
He added: ‘As this watch is the only Series 1 in white gold made, it is truly unique.
‘Both the team at Phillips and I believe this is the first time a Series 1 “Theo Fennell” is being offered in an international auction room which does make this a very rare moment. I very much hope the watch goes to an appreciative collector and will be urging the bidding on from the sidelines.’
