Onchan MHK Rob Callister is chairman of the environment and infrastructure policy review committee which scrutinises implemented policies.
He wrote to Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer, Environment, Minister Geoffrey Boot and Manx Utilities chairman Dr Alex Allinson.
He and his fellow committee members are ’looking to obtain an urgent overview of the events that have unfolded over the past couple of days’.
The letter said: ’From the outset we need to establish which government department or statutory board engaged Paul Carey & Sons Limited to carry out a schedule of work in Glen Road, Laxey.
’An overview of the work to be undertaken would also be helpful, and confirmation that the contractor had permission from the department/MUA to breach the wall in the first place.
’If so, when was that permission given, when was a section of the wall removed and why wasn’t the contractor aware of the pending Met Office forecast, which was publicly available on Monday?
’We also need to establish why this work was being undertaken in October and if the work was considered a matter of immediate priority.’
