Matthew Bostock has been drafted into the Isle of Man road cycling team for the 120-mile Commonwealth Games road race tomorrow morning, Saturday.
The Great Britain international track rider has been suffering from a knee injury, but he was considered fit enough to contest the race in place of sprint star Mark Cavendish who was forced to pull out of the Games last month following a crash in the closing stages of the Milan-San Remo one-day classic.
It was his third crash in as little as five weeks, which left him nursing two broken ribs and an ankle ligament injury .
Bostock, who finished sixth in the men’s 15km scratch race last Saturday, will join Jake Kelly, Nathan Draper, Tom and Leon Mazzone in the men’s road race, which begins at 12.45pm tomorrow (Australia time) 3.45am in the Isle of Man.
Trek Drops Cycling team professionals Anna Christian and Lizzie Holden contest the women’s road race which starts at 7.45am (local time in Gold Coast) 10.45pm this evening, Friday, in the Isle of Man.
