A Maughold man has appeared in court after denying drink-driving.

Forty-three-year-old Michael Karl McAllister, of Dreemskerry, was due to face a pre-trial review last month.

He allegedly failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 42, above the limit of 35, on April 18, on the A5 road in Ballasalla.

However, defence advocate Ian Kermode said that his client took medication for gastroesophageal reflux disease, and this may have affected the breathalyser reading.

Mr Kermode said that legal aid funding was being sought for an expert’s report, which would ascertain if this was a viable defence.

The advocate asked for the case to be adjourned until September 3, when it is hoped there will be an update.
