A motorist who drove into the back of a taxi has been fined £350 for careless driving.

Thirty-five-year-old Jack McVey also had his licence endorsed with four points.

Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told the court that the cabbie was driving near Alder Grove in Pulrose on March 7, at around 7.30pm.

He parked while a passenger was paying, but was then hit from behind by a Mercedes A200, driven by the defendant.

McVey, of Farmhill Grange, Douglas, claimed the taxi driver had braked and not indicated, but accepted the accident was his fault.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said the incident had been a ‘10mph bump’, and any damage had been dealt with by insurers.

Magistrates also ordered £50 prosecution costs.
