A Ramsey woman has been fined £765 for kicking a police officer and being drunk and disorderly.
Amy Caren Mackie admitted both offences and has also been ordered to pay the officer £250 compensation.
Prosecuting advocate Annie Bannister told the court that police were called to Parliament Street, outside Star Grill, on July 25, at 1.15am.
Twenty-four-year-old Mackie was said to have been involved in a disturbance.
Officers arrived and saw her in a group of four people.
A member of staff from Star Grill then walked over to Mackie and said: ‘You don’t know what racism feels like’.
Mackie was said to have responded, shouting: ‘Excuse me, I’m a ginger.’
Police warned her to lower her voice on a number of occasions, but she continued to shout.
She was described as smelling of alcohol and slurring her words.
Mackie, of Bircham Avenue Close, was arrested and taken to Douglas Police Headquarters.
Once there, she had to be physically restrained due to her demeanour, but as she was being put in a cell, she kicked out, striking a female officer on the thigh.
No injury was caused and Mackie later said: ‘I’m really sorry that I kicked her.’
Defence advocate Emily Brennan asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty plea, and handed in a letter of apology, written by the defendant.
‘It was a case of having too much alcohol, which led to impaired decisions,’ said the advocate.
Ms Brennan said the assault on the police officer had been on a reckless basis, with Mackie just kicking out, rather than deliberately aiming a kick.
‘She accepts full responsibility and apologised afterwards,’ continued the advocate.
‘She has reduced her alcohol intake since the incident.’
Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood also ordered Mackie to pay £125 prosecution costs, and she will pay all amounts at a rate of £100 per week.
