A man from Crosby has been fined £500 for being drunk and disorderly.

Ryan Benjamin James McCurrie, aged 22, of Eyremont Terrace, admitted the offence and was also banned from licensed premises and purchasing or being sold alcohol for three months.

Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how, on January 26 at 3am, McCurrie was asked by staff to leave the Outback in Barrack Street, Douglas. He was said to be shouting aggressively at another man who was also leaving the bar and police were called.

McCurrie walked off but continued to shout at the man despite police and members of the public telling him to leave.

He then ran back and began shouting in the face of the man.

Police led him away but he continued to shout and then ran back a second time, this time swinging his fist at the man striking him on the cheek.

Police grabbed McCurrie but he broke free running off towards Prospect Hill before being caught again. The court heard that no complaint had been made by the man who was struck.

McCurrie was said to have been made the subject of a 12 month probation order in December for an assault.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said: ’Mr McCurrie feels the probation order is going well. He has had a few meetings.’

Mr Glover went on to ask for his client to be given credit for his guilty plea.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told McCurrie: ’It is perhaps fortunate you weren’t charged with a more serious offence. Police gave you the opportunity to leave the scene and you chose to ignore them.’

McCurrie was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
