A Douglas man who was abusive to Co-op staff after being refused alcohol has been fined £450.

Charlton Andrew Gary Watterson, of Prince’s Street, admitted provoking behaviour and must also pay £125 prosecution costs.

The court heard 30-year-old Watterson tried to buy alcohol at the Woodbourne Terrace Co-op on August 3, but was refused.

He then returned the following day, but was refused service again.

This time, he became abusive, calling a staff member a ‘w*****’, and asking them to go outside.

Watterson was later arrested on Bucks Road.

Defence advocate Kaitlyn Shimmin said the defendant had alcohol issues, but was working with the Drug and Alcohol Team.

Watterson will pay at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
