A trip to the funfair has ended up costing a Douglas man a fine of £330.

Rhys Robert Brown was arrested after getting into a row with fairground staff and refusing to leave.

The 24-year-old appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood recently, admitting threatening behaviour, and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Annie Bannister told the court that the defendant was in the fairground area on Loch Promenade in Douglas on June 4.

At around 8.15pm, he was said to have become abusive to fairground staff and was asked to leave.

However, Brown refused, which resulted in the staff flagging down police.

He was initially detained under the Drugs Act, but resisted when police officers tried to handcuff him.

Brown said: ‘I haven’t f****** done anything.’

He was warned about his language as there were families with children present, but said: ‘F*** off.’

As he was arrested he was said to be shouting and swearing, saying: ‘I don’t give a f***.’

Brown, of Springfield Avenue, was initially taken to the hospital, but later discharged.

Defence advocate Helen Lobb said the defendant accepted he was under the influence of alcohol, but denied he’d taken any drugs.

Ms Lobb asked for credit to be given for the guilty plea and said Brown wanted to apologise to police and any onlookers who witnessed the incident.

The advocate said that Brown had spent a night in the cells as a result of the incident.

Deputy High Bailiff Ms Braidwood told Brown that she had dealt with him for being drunk and disorderly in December and added: ‘It does seem that alcohol doesn’t agree with you.

‘You shouldn’t be drinking if this is the way it causes you to behave.’

Brown agreed to pay at a rate of £100 per month.
