A Douglas pensioner has been fined £810 for driving without insurance or tax.

Seventy-four-year-old Jennifer Ann Corran also had her licence endorsed with six points.

The court heard that police stopped her while she was driving a Peugeot Partner van on January 14, at New Castletown Road in Douglas.

The van’s tax had expired on July 30.

She said she was waiting for her pension and planned to tax the van the next day.

Defence advocate Helen Lobb said Corran, of Ballaughton Close, had completed the tax form, but hadn’t sent it when she was stopped.

Magistrates fined her £650 for the insurance offence and £160 for the tax offence, plus £50 prosecution costs.

She’ll pay £100 per month.
