A Douglas woman has been put on probation for 18 months after a shoplifting spree.
Alison Beckley stole from four different shops in Douglas taking goods totalling a value of £483.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that, on January 20 at 2pm, Beckley, who lives at Prince’s Street, was seen entering Boots in Strand Street.
She was recognised by staff as she has been on the Shopwatch scheme previously.
Staff saw Beckley putting items in her bag then leaving the shop without paying.
Police were called and apprehended her.
When searched she was found to have several items in her bag but said: ’Yeah, the perfume is stolen but the rest is mine.’
Police found that Beckley had stolen jewellery and cosmetics from TK Maxx valued at £83, items from The Works valued at £14, items from Claire’s Accessories valued at £31, and items from Boots worth £355.
A probation report said that Beckley, who is 42, was subject to a probation order for 12 months in June 2019 and had worked well with probation.
The report recommended another period of probation.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor asked the court to follow the recommendation of the report.
Magistrates agreed to impose an 18-month probation order and also ordered Beckley to pay £125 prosecution costs, which she will pay at a rate of £10 per week.
