A teenager who rowed with a pub landlord two nights running and told him ’I’ll smash your head in with a hammer’ has been put on probation for two years.
Brogan Misselbrook admitted threatening behaviour and provoking behaviour, both committed at the Mitre Hotel in Ramsey.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that 18-year-old Misselbrook went to the Parliament Street bar on August 19 with a group of friends at 7.15pm.
He was asked to leave by the designated official but became aggressive saying: 'Nonce. I’ll smash your head in with a hammer.’
Misselbrook eventually left but then returned to the pub the following night.
He was drinking in the Cooil bar which is underneath the Mitre when he was again asked to leave by the designated official.
aggressive
This prompted Misselbrook to become aggressive again as he stood within touching distance of the landlord and said: ’Hit me. Hit me.’
Police arrived but the teenager ran off.
He was later arrested and when interviewed told police he could not remember the incidents.
The court heard that Misselbrook was already subject to a probation order, imposed in September for provoking behaviour after the teenager kicked and punched a man outside the Royal George in Ramsey.
A probation report said that he had been working well with probation since September and recommended that that work be allowed to continue.
It stated that ’Misselbrook is not a young man who goes out looking for trouble but he holds his hands up, he doesn’t always react in the right way.’
Misselbrook told probation that on the second night he had gone to the Mitre to apologise but had then been told to leave and had reacted to that.
The teenager was said to have been offered work as a painter and decorator.
Defence advocate Andrew Baker asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty pleas, which were entered on his first court appearance.
awry
The advocate said: ’Mr Misselbrook accepts his wrongdoing. He is a young man and things have gone a little bit awry lately.’
Mr Baker supported the recommendation of the probation report.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes discharged the previous probation order and issued a new two-year order, to begin immediately.
He was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs at a rate of £10 per week.
