A 62-year-old woman who bit a police officer on the leg has been put on probation for nine months.

Yannina June Holmes, of Ballamona Straight, Jurby, admitted assaulting a police officer.

Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told the court that police arrested Holmes on April 1, initially relating to another matter.

She was put in handcuffs, but slipped one hand out and resisted.

During a struggle on the ground, Holmes said: ‘Who’s leg is this?’

She then put her teeth on the officer’s leg, but no injury was caused.

Defence advocate Ian Kermode said the defendant had been in a highly emotional state at the time, but was receiving support from the Drug and Alcohol Team and mental health services.
