The Scouts might not be able to meet during lockdown but that doesn’t mean Scouting is not happening.

Many programmes are being developed but UK Scouting have launched ’Hike to the Moon’ in which Scouts walk a mile or so and any money raised supports BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief supporting those most affected by Covid - 19.

One young man has walked three miles with his younger sister and mum and dad.

Leo Hughes, an eight-year-old Cub Scout from First Malew Scout Group, has raised £155 through sponsorship.

He has now been presented with the County Commissioners Commendation Award, which is a certificate and uniform badge which may be worn on uniform as a Cub, Scout, Explorer or indeed as an adult leader in 10 years’ time.

This award has been presented to about 30 adult leaders but Leo is the first young person to be presented such an award in the Isle of Man.

The award was presented via the online video meeting service Zoom.
