Fire crews from Kirk Michael dealt with a hedgerow fire on Sunday night, which is believed was started by a discarded cigarette.

A fire service statement said: ‘At 9pm last night Kirk Michael crews were mobilised with their major and RIV off-road firefighting appliances to approximately 35 metres of hedgerow on fire.

‘It took the crews one hour to extinguish the fire utilising hose-reels and the nebula technology from the off-road appliance.

‘The fire is believed to have started from a discarded cigarette.

‘It’s tinder dry out there, please be vigilant.’
