Armistice Sunday will go ahead in the island’s capital this year, but the promenade works have led to changes being made.
Douglas Council leader David Christian was asked by Councillor John Skinner whether the annual wreath laying would be held following the cancellation of the capital’s fireworks display thanks to the promenade works.
In a written answer, Mr Christian said: ’Arrangements are currently being worked on for the Remembrance Sunday event which is currently planned to go ahead without the parade from the church to the war memorial and with a revised layout around the memorial area.
’The usual road closure has been applied for so that vehicular traffic will be stopped and the wreath laying can taken place with its usual dignity.’
However, while there won’t be a formal parade from St Thomas’ Church to the war memorial, there will be a parade from the Legion Club to St Thomas’ Church followed by a memorial service.
Everyone who attends will be asked to make their own way to the war memorial for the wreath laying and two minute’s silence.
There will then be a parade from Harris Promenade, which will include a salute to the Mayor, and then they will turn on to Granville Street return to the Legion on Duke Street.
This year’s Remembrance Sunday falls on November 8.
