Twenty years after they first became heroes of Britpop, Dodgy proved they’re still more than Good Enough.
The 90s Indie icons provided a blistering curtain raiser to the weekend’s Deep South Festival.
On his first visit to the island, frontman Nigel Clark was clearly looking forward to his weekend here as he took to the stage in the main tent at Colby FC’s ground last night (Friday).
They soon got into the swing of things with the perfect power pop of Staying out for the Summer from Dodgy’s 1994 album Homegrown.
The crowd were treated to a set that blended 90s classics with new material. Stand-out tracks included Mended Heart from last year’s album What are we Fighting For? and Found You from the band’s third album, 1996’s Free Peace Sweet.
From the same album came In a Room and the highlight of the set, a rousing rendition of Good Enough - Dodgy’ biggest hit, which reached number four in the single charts.
The band ended a cracking evening with If you’re Thinking of Me - and a promise they would return to the island.
Earlier, ex-Coral’s Bill Ryder Jones and his band performed on stage in the main tent sporting Colby AFC kit, providing a crowd-pleasing set of introspective Indie pop.
