Douglas Council has applied for planning permission to create a building compound on Ballanard Road playing field.
In its application, the local authority says the new compound site will support its ‘multi million pound’ social housing refurbishment scheme in the Willaston estate.
The council says the playing field is the ‘only alternative area’ and the adjacent main road will ‘drown out’ noise from the compound.
It’s also requesting use of the site for six years, but adds because of ‘uncertainty’ it may remain in place until all external refurbishment schemes are completed.
The council also says there will be little impact on nearby homes.
A number of local residents have formed a campaign group against the application, which is currently pending consideration.
