A Ballasalla man has admitted speeding at 87mph in a 50mph zone.
Fifty-five-year-old Peter Alec Kneen was stopped by police on May 27, on Braaid Road in St Mark’s.
Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told the court that police were performing speed checks at 3.40pm.
They recorded Kneen driving a Vauxhall Astra at 87mph, on the straight approaching the village from the roundabout.
Defence advocate Darren Taubitz said the defendant, of East Grenaby Road, was a farm contractor, and a ban would impact upon the island’s farming community.
He said, if disqualification was a possibility, an adjournment was sought until October 22, to obtain letters of support for an argument that a ban would cause exceptional hardship.
Magistrates adjourned the case with bail granted.
