Former King William’s College pupil Thomas Dutnall will spend three months this summer working for Strix in Hong Kong.

He has been awarded the 2018 KWC barrovian alumni internship, which is open to former pupils aged 18 to 25, was launched last year as an initiative between the private school and kettle company Strix.

Oliver Mealin was the first successful applicant.

Thomas is studying for a degree in international business, economics and finance at the University of Manchester.

He will follow in Oliver’s footsteps when he flies to Hong Kong in June, where he will work in Causeway Bay alongside Strix’s top senior business analyst, Catherine Tam.

Thomas said: ’This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I am looking forward to gaining valuable work experience from a thriving business that I have no doubt will hold me in good stead for my future career.

’I am honoured to have been chosen by Strix for this internship and I hope to submerge myself in the vastly different culture that Hong Kong has to offer and come out with amazing memories. I’d like to thank King William’s College and Strix for offering me this unique experience.’

Strix makes safety control systems for small domestic appliances and filtration systems for filter kettles, fridge jugs and chilled water units.

Headquartered near Ronaldsway Airport, Strix has offices across the UK, China and Hong Kong, employing more than 850 people worldwide

Pauline McGee, director of group human resources at Strix, said: ’Oliver had a richly-rewarding stay in Hong Kong last summer and we’re sure Thomas will enjoy his placement immensely.

’The internship has certainly caught the imagination of the alumni and we are delighted the partnership with the College is going from strength to strength.’

Kara Hughes-Jones, head of external relations for King William’s College and The Buchan School, said: ’The standard of applications for the internship was once again of a high calibre and Thomas should be proud to have been chosen.

’The internship will give him valuable experience, not just in regard to his career prospects, but in helping his personal development.

’It was wonderful to receive such positive feedback from Oliver about his time in Hong Kong and we look forward to hearing from Thomas about his experience.’
