Saxophonist Beccy Rork will return to the island in April for a series of three performances, continuing her long-standing association with the Isle of Man’s jazz community.
The East Sussex–based musician is scheduled to appear at the Erin Arts Centre Jazz Club on Friday, April 10, where she will perform alongside local ensemble Blue Vannin.
Rork, a saxophonist, teacher and arranger, began playing in the 1990s before studying jazz, popular and contemporary music at Leeds College of Music.
During her time there, she met trombonist Jackie Grace, forming a musical partnership that led to her first visit to the Isle of Man in 2004. Since then, she has made regular appearances in the island, including performances at the Port Erin Jazz Festival in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
Her style is characterised by a melodic approach and warm tone, drawing comparisons with alto saxophonists such as Art Pepper, Paul Desmond and Bud Shank. Her tenor playing reflects the influence of Stan Getz and Stanley Turrentine.
She currently performs with a number of UK-based outfits, playing jazz, soul, funk and blues.
Blue Vannin, formed in 2017 as a tribute to John Coltrane, has since developed into a regular presence on the local jazz scene.
Under the direction of pianist John Stillman, the group performs a repertoire ranging from the Great American Songbook to works by Herbie Hancock, and continues to perform both locally and further afield.
They recently toured in Brighton and have been invited to play at the prestigious Swansea International jazz festival in September.
Rork will also appear at the Terminus Tavern on April 11 and at The British on April 12, with the latter scheduled for 4pm.
