A Manx charity supporting people with autoimmune conditions is marking its 10th anniversary with 12 hours of live music this weekend.
Without Wings – The Manx Autoimmune Trust will host its anniversary band-a-thon at Quids Inn this Saturday, October 10, from 1pm until 1am.
The event will feature live performances from local acts including Mood Indigo, The Enthusiasts, Jazzapenos, Josh Quaye and Harry Roe, CUNextFriday, Atomic Train, Half-Naked Headline, Kincroft, Croteau, Smoking Fingers, Shady Acres and OK Computer.
Founded in 2016, Without Wings was originally established to support people affected by arthritis but has since expanded its remit to cover all autoimmune conditions across the island.
The charity focuses on three core principles: awareness, information and compassionate funding.
Over the past decade, it has provided financial support to people living with long-term illness, funded services including counselling, cleaning, gardening and adapted exercise, and delivered wellbeing activities and workshops.
Founder and chair Jackie Morrey-Grace said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the charity’s journey and look towards its future.
‘Ten years feels extraordinary. We started as a tiny charity with big dreams because of personal experience and the realisation that you can quickly become vulnerable when dealing with chronic and often crippling illness.
‘A decade later, we have a much clearer understanding of the needs that exist across our community and a strong vision for what Without Wings can become.’
The event will also mark a personal milestone for Jackie, who will front Jazzapenos for the first time in more than two decades.
‘Music and the Manx music community are a huge part of my own life and healing, Without Wings has always been rooted in community, so celebrating our 10th birthday this way feels absolutely right.’
Quids Inn will provide the venue and sound facilities free of charge, while donating all door takings to Without Wings.
A fundraising raffle will also run throughout the event, with prizes including a £150 Isle of Man Steam Packet Company voucher and a £100 Willow Spa voucher.
