Photographers of all ages and abilities are being invited to capture the island's wildlife, landscapes and natural beauty as part of a new competition being launched by Manx National Heritage.

The Wild Mann Photography Competition has been organised to celebrate the return of the internationally acclaimed Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition to the House of Manannan in December.

The competition is inspired by one of the world's most prestigious wildlife photography exhibitions and is intended to encourage people to get outdoors and discover the island's natural environment through photography.

Manx National Heritage is inviting photographers from the Isle of Man and beyond to submit their favourite images showcasing the island's flora, fauna, coastlines and landscapes.

The competition is open to people of all abilities, whether they are experienced photographers, enthusiastic amateurs or simply enjoy taking photographs while exploring the island.

Entries could feature everything from dramatic seabird colonies and elusive mammals to colourful fungi, underwater environments and detailed macro photography.

Laura McCoy, curator for natural history at Manx National Heritage said: ‘Whether you're capturing a fleeting moment with a puffin, the colours of a woodland fungus, the drama of the island's coastline or the hidden beauty beneath the waves, Wild Mann is your chance to share the Isle of Man's natural wonders with everyone.’

The competition is intended to celebrate the diversity of the island's natural world and highlight the wild places and native wildlife that can be found across the Isle of Man.

Winning and highly commended photographs will be given a further platform, with selected images due to go on display in a new exhibition at the Manx Museum in spring 2027.

The overall winner will receive £250 in vouchers to spend at Morrison Photos.

However, there are restrictions on what can be entered. Photographs featuring farm animals or captive animals at the Wildlife Park are not eligible for the competition.

This includes feral goats, chickens and wallabies at the park, while family pets and cultivated plants are also excluded.

The competition is focused on the island's wild places and native wildlife, rather than domestic, farmed or cultivated subjects.

Photographers are also being reminded that the welfare of wildlife must come before getting the perfect shot.

Wildlife must never be disturbed or harmed in pursuit of a photograph, with entrants expected to ensure that their photography does not negatively affect the animals, plants or environments.

Entries should be submitted as high-quality JPEG images measuring at least 3000 pixels on the longest side or 180 pixels per inch (ppi), while images must not include borders, watermarks or signatures.

Entries close March 7 next year.
