Entries close at noon tomorrow (Wednesday) for the annual Isle of Man Cycle Challenge on the TT Mountain Course, which will take place on Sunday.

More than 150 riders are taking part this year on a closed road on the mountain section from Ramsey to the Creg ny Baa with a timed climb up to Mountain Box.

Among the cyclists will be Mark Howard, who is a hand cyclist and returning for his fourth year to raise funds for The Bridge for Heroes, a charity that helps injured army veterans.

Also taking part is Ryan Kneale from Onchan, who is riding one lap despite suffering from arthritis of the spine.

The event organisers are still looking for marshals to ensure the cyclists’ safety around the course.

All marshals will be provided with training, an ID card and have their expenses covered. Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Laura on 07939 953 395 or [email protected].

Event organiser Laura Mearns said: ’The Cycle Challenge is designed to be a fun day out for cyclists of all abilities, some of whom raise thousands of pounds for charity.

’Most of the people taking part are visitors to the island and are bringing friends and family so we’re keen for them to have the best experience possible.

There’s a great camaraderie amongst the riders and many of them are surprised by how beautiful the TT course actually is - the icing on the cake is public support around the island and when the weather is beautiful too.’

The Cycle Challenge starts at the TT Grandstand at 8.30am and will finish at 5pm.
