Erika Kelly, 25, currently lives in Maughold, although is originally from Ramsey.

She is currently studying part time for a BSc degree in Psychology and Counselling, with the Open University.

She also works part time as a financial worker with the Isle of Man Government.

Erika was named as one of the island’s athletes for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Australia during April this year, where she will contest the 20km race walk.

She is one of the top race walkers in the island, having won the British/EA/CAU National 10km championships in 2017, and went on to represent England later in the year.

She is also an accomplished musician and harpist, and she released an EP, ’Talking This Over’, in 2014. The single ’Better I Try’, taken from the EP, reached number 5 in the Itunes singles chart on the week of its release.’

What is your idea of a perfect meal?

It would probably be something that involves pizza and garlic bread with sweet potato fries. Or pretty much any of the food they serve in The Alpine.

What is your favourite way to relax?

It is either by playing my harp or the piano, listening to music or taking a long hot bath.

What is your greatest extravagance?

A Horizon treadmill. It is ideal for winter training and for when you are living in the middle of nowhere.

Do you have any pets?

I have two border collies, who are called Feena and Floyd, and I also have one dutch rabbit, called Crosby.

What is your greatest achievement?

It has to be getting selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, later this year.

Although releasing my EP, ’Better I Try’, and it getting to No. 5 on the iTunes Charts was also quite a high point too.

What is your favourite time of the year?

I like the long sunny days in summer most of all.

What is the first job you ever had?

I had a Courier round which I shared with my twin brother.

Do you have any irrational fears?

Emetophobia, which means I am terrified of bring sick.

What is your worst habit?

Biting the insides of my cheeks when I get nervous.

What is your favourite book?

There’s too many to choose from. I love anything psychological and currently reading a fab book , ’It’s All In Your Head’ by Suzanne O’Sullivan. It discusses how powerful the mind is in convincing us off something that isn’t there.

What is your favourite TV programme?

Louis Theroux documentaries.

What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?

I am loving Meadowlark and Tom Grennan at the moment.

What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?

Niarbyl.

What is the last show/band that you saw live?

I recently saw Pete Tong and The Heritage Orchestra.

I would choose David Attenborough, former US President Barack Obama and Bridget Jones.
