A celebration of the extraordinary lives of some of the Isle of Man’s favourite birds will be the focus of a special event staged at the Manx Museum by Manx Birdlife and the Manx Ornithological Society next month.

The Celebrating Manx Birds afternoon symposium, which first presented to a capacity audience at the Manx Museum in November 2016, takes place next month and is free to enter.

The event will feature a line-up of local and international speakers who are ornithological experts and the organisers promise an afternoon of ’gentle science and fascinating discovery’ aimed at a non-expert audience.

The speakers will reveal new insights into the lives and fortunes of Manx birds. They will present the latest science that is saving vulnerable species, and share their personal stories of working with wildlife.

After the presentations, there will be a buffet at Meadows Pavilion, Douglas Golf Club, which will bring together speakers, sponsors and delegates.

Tickets for the evening buffet cost £15 per person.

The event is open to everyone and attendance at the afternoon symposium is free.

The programme runs from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday, November 17, in the lecture theatre of the Manx Museum in Douglas.

Free places for the afternoon presentations at the Manx Museum, and tickets for the evening buffet reception, can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or telephoning 861130. Full event details can be found at www.manxbirdlife.im/celebrate2018.

The event has received support from 2018 Year of Our Island, Unesco Biosphere Isleof Man, Tesco Bags of Help, the Society for the Preservation of the Manx Countryside and Environment, and Stewart Clague Services (SCS) Limited.
