Peel Castle echoed with sounds of laughter and cheering as families and friends competed against one another during the Traditional Sports Day.
The annual event saw the ancient landmark transform into an arena complete with a race track - which could well have boasted the best views of any sprint track in the world.
More than 250 people took part in the activities that included classics, such as a three-legged race.
The day was organised by Manx National Heritage.
A spokesman said: ’We had a fantastic turnout for our annual sports day event at Peel Castle, which was made even better by the sun shining all afternoon.’
The ’true traditional’ activities were: the egg and spoon race, sack races, the three-legged race, plus a speedy sprint finale.
Children of all ages raced with their parents also getting in on the action.
The three-legged race provided some hilarity with pairs hobbling together to try and reach the finish line first.
A lot of concentration went into the balancing of an egg on a spoon while running.
Following the fun, families had their packed picnics while enjoying the panoramic views that the castle had to offer.
The spokesman added: ’It’s great to see so many local families and holidaymakers to the island get involved with the day and bring along their picnics to enjoy in the wonderful castle setting.’
