The fire service has issued a warning about the recent dry conditions.
Over the last few weeks they have been called to a number of fires involving burning of rubbish and grass.
The ground and foliage is dry and sea breezes can mean fires can get out of hand.
Heather burning is no longer permitted without a special licence. The usual licensed burning off period is September 1 till March 15.
A fire service spokesman said: ’With this weather people will start to have barbecues. These, when held in the countryside, can also cause problems so please follow these simple basic precautions:
Never leave camp fires or barbeques unattended and extinguish them properly after you have finished using them
Clear away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to avoid them magnifying the sun and starting a fire
Dispose of smoking materials such as cigarettes safely
Explain to children the dangers of playing with and lighting fires
