The director behind a new musical written around the TT has said the first public performances of his show have ’exceeded his expectations’.
The showcase performances of ’Twist and Turn-The Musical’ took place at the Other Palace theatre, London, earlier this week.
The small-scale performances were essentially trial runs of the musical, which is still under development, and played out with a minimal stage set in front of audiences of no more than 50 people, but director and writer Tony Gibbs said he was happy with the feedback he had so far received.
’We played to a full house on both nights, so we’re delighted with the response and in particular with the audience’s reactions who laughed in all the right places.
’We know from the audience’s comments on the feedback forms which were the most popular songs and also who the favourite characters are.
’The whole cast were incredible with some characters attracting particular praise from the audience.
’Simon Gordon, who played Robbie the world superbike champion, was superb, as was Erin Caldwell.
Bernie, the pub singer played by Tom Berkeley who is an incredible performer and also very funny.
’His performance of the song, "The Song That You Sing" was rated the most popular by the audience.
’The captivating Georgina Castle as Charlotte also gave a stunning solo performance of the song, "Rescue".’
