A painting by Manx artist Frank Crompton will feature in billboards on the London Underground.

The recently-completed painting of ’The Penny People at Play’ reflects Mr Crompton’s signature style for which he has already gained a reputation on the worldwide web.

Mr Crompton, 82, who lives in Killane, Ballaugh, has been painting for more than 70 years.

He said: ’The Penny People at Play is one of the art works I am known for.

’These charactors go in a lot of my paintings which I sell all over the world through the internet.

’This painting was chosen to be made into a billboard poster which will be shown in the London Underground and at the London Art Exhibition.

’It will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people so I hope it will bring me some luck in my old age.’

Mr Crompton added that he was ’gobsmacked’ when he was asked whether the painting could be turned into a billboard:

’It wasn’t something I was expecting. It was a nice surprise.’
