A new operator is being sought for the iconic Niarbyl Café, which has remained closed at one of the Isle of Man’s most spectacular beauty spots since January 2023.
Manx National Heritage is inviting expressions of interest from experienced businesses and operators to take on the running of the much-loved coastal café.
The venue sits above Niarbyl Bay on the island’s west coast, offering panoramic views towards Ireland and overlooking the area’s famous thatched cottages and internationally important geology.
MNH said it was looking for a ‘passionate, creative and experienced’ operator with the vision to reopen and revitalise the popular venue.
The organisation said it welcomed innovative proposals which could secure a ‘sustainable future’ for the café, while maintaining high standards of food, customer service and hospitality.
Operators are also expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and the use of locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
The café includes a main dining area, a small mezzanine, toilets, kitchen facilities and access to an outdoor grassed area with views along the west coast.
A large car park is also available for visitors.
The latest invitation follows a lengthy period of refurbishment at the site.
MNH previously said in September 2025 that it hoped the café would reopen in spring 2026 following refurbishment works, which included a ‘major excavation’.

The nearby Knockuskey cottage was also undergoing improvements, including a new roof, joinery and improved access.
The café first opened in 2005 and has previously been promoted as a destination offering food alongside its dramatic coastal setting.
MNH said the latest opportunity represented a chance for a new operator to ‘bring fresh ideas and energy’ to the site and maximise its potential.
Interested parties can arrange a site tour and discuss proposals with MNH ahead of making a formal submission.
The closing date for proposals is midnight on Friday, September 25.
