Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Lady Gozney visited the sights and people of Andreas in an official visit to the parish.
The pair spent the day seeing what the parish has to offer, from the site of a Viking boat burial at Knock e Dhooney to the home of Ayre United Football Club.
Andreas Commissioners clerk John Quayle said: ’A good day was had by all. He was very taken with everything that goes on in the parish.’
The governor rang the bell at St Andrew’s Church and stopped at the war memorial.
And he and his wife visited Andreas School, accompanied by commissioners and Captain of the Parish Dorothy Sayle.
At Ballakelly Farm, they looked at the animals and learned how their meat is processed. And at Smeale Farm they learned about the farm walks and wheat production.
They stopped at the memorial stone in memory of Andreas airfield and the units based there 1941 and 1947.
They also met the staff at the village shop and hair salon and had lunch at the Grosvenor.
They were presented with a painting of Andreas church and a bouquet of flowers.
