The Trefoil Guild Isle of Man’s chairperson, Ruth Denning, retired after four years in office at the organisation’s annual general meeting.

The new chairperson is Freda Black.

The last 12 months have been very busy for Trefoil members as they have celebrated 75 years since Trefoil started.

The group’s challenge for the year was to raise money for Riding for the Disabled.

Members have raised £2000 during the year.

A cheque was presented to Riding for the Disabled Isle of Man in January.

During the meeting, held at Peel Golf Club, speaker Clare Christian spoke about Sophia Goulden, the mother of Emmeline Pankhurst, who was born on the Isle of Man and was also involved with the movement to get the vote for women.

Mrs Christian told members about the hardships that the suffragettes had to endure before getting votes for women.
