Ballacottier Primary School has been closed for a day after an outbreak of the norovirus bug.

The school wrote to parents yesterday saying that, as a precautionary measure, the school would be closed today (Friday) for it to be deep cleaned.

A letter from headteacher Carol Walsh, posted on the school’s Facebook page, said: ’I am sure you are all aware that some children and staff in school have been ill with norovirus symptoms. We have taken advice, and as a precautionary measure, we will be closing the school tomorrow (Friday) in order for it to be deep cleaned.’

The letter goes on to warn that children should not return to school on Monday if they display any norovirus symptoms such as headache, stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea, or feeling generally unwell.
