The island should have a clearer idea where we’re heading with Covid-19 by next week.
Department of Health and Social Care chief executive Kathryn Magson outlined the statistical modelling that is guiding the island’s response to the virus.
Ms Magson said a key element of the island’s fight against Covid-19 is treating as many as possible in the community, rather than in Noble’s Hospital.
She added: ’The key part of this is that it is essential for us to enhance the community and primary care approach.
’The key assumption behind a lot of this planning is that a significant proportion of our patients are managed in the community i.e. not in hospital and not in ITU.
’This is based on patterns elsewhere, but it is not an exact science.
’So at this stage, we believe we will be able to predict where we are on the curve and identify the trends. And as a result, we’ll be able to do that on April 23.’
Earlier today, the Council of Ministers confirmed that the current lock down measures will stay in place until at least April 23.
Minister for DHSC David Ashford earlier praised the response of the police regarding people who flouted the rules on social distancing, isolating and remaining at home.
He said that the ’minority who threatened the community have been dealt with’.
And added: ’The irresponsible actions of the few threaten to undermine the sacrifices of the many.’
