Hospice Isle of Man’s Christmas tree collection service raised £9,000 for the charity.

A total of 635 trees were collected and 7200kg of trees shredded.

The hospice collected trees from people’s homes in return for a fee.

Anne Mills, chief executive officer of Hospice Isle of Man, said: ’These vital funds will help Hospice to continue to provide specialist palliative care to their patients and their families, supporting more people to live well, their way until the end of their lives, and for that I am truly grateful to everyone who has supported us with this scheme.’

The hospice works with the Post Office, Tel’s Skips and Ballaneven Compost to collect the trees.

The Post Office plans the collection routes, and provides a group of volunteers to drive around in vans to collect the trees.

The trees are then taken to Tel’s Skips Ltd, where they are stored in large bins and put through the shredder.

The shredded trees get passed to Ballaneven, which turns them into compost, some of which is then used in the hospice’s gardens
