Sometimes, laughter is by far the best medicine and the cast of a satirical news show aim to come to the aid of as many people as they can this weekend.

A team of Manx Radio presenters and personalities will host ’IM1...Live!’ at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday evening, from 8pm.

Presented by Manx Radio news readers Howard Caine, Ewan Gawne, Rhian Evans and Beth Espey, along with BBC reporter Al Bell and compere Chris Williams, the IM1 show takes a look and pokes light-hearted and satirical fun at the stories that make the island’s news and current affairs and also at those who report them.

Politicians, personalities and even the news reporters themselves are not spared from spars, jokes and the poke-in-the-ribs comedy.

’IM1’ initially started out as a radio show and this weekend is the comedy news show’s second stage outing, with the first coming in February earlier this year.

Obviously, that was held before Covid-19 swept across the globe and dominated current affairs everywhere and the team can’t help but find the humour in recent events.

’Of course, the Covid-19 situation features during the show,’ said Howard.

’How could we not include it?

’We did do a special Tynwald Day show which went out on the radio and that touched on it too.

’We do make it clear that we are a satirical show and we are poking a bit of fun at many things, but our hearts do go out to all those who have been negatively affected by the recent situation.

’Obviously there are people who have lost loved ones and those who have lost their jobs and had their livelihoods affected and we don’t want to offend anyone in that situation, obviously.

’But we do have the attitude that life goes on and that it doesn’t hurt to bring a little bit of light relief into a situation. Laughter is often the best medicine in situations like these.

’We do like to keep it current and there is still material being written as we speak.’

All proceeds of the show are to be donated to the Peel Centenary Centre. However, demand for tickets for the show was high and the event has now sold out.
