Inflation has decreased by 0.8% in one month, figures from the Cabinet Office have revealed.

The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index went down in March to 1.8%, according to the official government statistics.

Transport is the most significant contributor to the rate of inflation, responsible for 0.6% of the 12-month rate.

Air fares, both off the island and further afield increased by 20.8% over the 12 months, as has the cost of driving lessons at 11.1%.

Recreation and culture contributes to a 0.5% increase towards the overall increase in the rate of inflation over the 12-month period.

Within this category, the cost of subscriptions to the internet underwent the single largest increase compared to last year, up 13.5%.

Postage went up by 9.6%, window cleaning costs rose by 20% and pork by 18.1%.

However there were some decreases over the 12 months to March.

Oil and other fuels saw a 14.2% decrease in prices while there were also reductions in prices for clothing and footwear.
