An End to End mountain bike race competitor died on the day of the event as a result of multiple head and spinal injuries after falling from his bicycle, an inquest heard.
Painter and decorator Derek Nigel Park, known as Nigel to friends and family, was aged 71 when he crashed during the annual competition on September 8.
High Bailiff and coroner of inquests, Jayne Hughes, opened an inquest into his death at Douglas courthouse today (Wednesday).
She said investigations are still ongoing.
Mr Park, a keen mountain biker from Glen Mona, was pronounced dead at 12.30pm on September 8 at Noble’s Hospital in Strang, Braddan.
Evidence stated that he had suffered cerebral lacerations and multiple injuries to his skull and top vertebrae.
The coroner asked for her condolences to be passed on to Mr Park’s family.
The inquest has been adjourned to a later date.
