The Isle of Man badminton team will be heading to Gibraltar this July with a mixture of familiar faces and a number of debutants as it aims to defend thee bronze team medal from Gotland in 2017.

Six gold medals will be up for grabs, with the team event taking place over two days and individual events comprising men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles being played over the final four days.

Team captain Kim Clague and player/manager Neil Harding will be competing in their eighth Island Games, while promising youngster Tobey Cheng, Steven Quayle and Nick Thornley will all be making their debuts.

Clague will be pairing up with Commonwealth Games team-mate Jess Li in the women’s doubles to defend their gold medal from two years ago, as well as hopefully win her fourth consecutive women’s doubles gold. Jess Li will also be aiming to defend her women’s singles gold medal from Gotland.

Nicola Wilkinson and Kayleigh Callow make a return to the Games team and Philippa Li will be appearing in her second IG after her debut in 2017.

Multiple junior island champion Cheng will be hoping to make an impression on his debut, along with the other newcomers Quayle and Thornley. Quayle will be pairing up with Matthew Nicholson in the men’s doubles who plays in his third Island Games.
