The Isle of Man has been listed as one of the top destinations for Viking holidays.
A list compiled by the website Trips to Discovery places the island as one of the ’top destinations if you’re fascinated by Vikings’.
The website says the island’s ’significant Viking heritage’ makes it an ideal holiday for Viking history buffs with attrations including ’Viking castles, recreated Viking homesteads, monuments and archaeological sites’.
It adds: ’One of the highlights is Peel Castle, the fort of Magnus Barefoot, the 11th-century Viking King of Mann, and House of Manannan, which offers many ways to delve into Viking culture, including a long ship and Viking artefacts.’
It recommends visitors go to The Braaid for ’the ruins of a Celtic and Viking farm settlement, which today are made up of the foundations of two Viking long houses and a stone circle outline of a Celtic roundhouse’.
Other destinations listed included Shetland, Ireland, Sweden and Norway.
