A total of 24 students have completed a week-long course at the NSC as part of a coaching programme.

The Sure sports leader programme is delivered by the Manx Sport and Recreation and teaches students how to coach different sports in a safe and fun environment.

Students on the course gained national qualifications in first aid, safeguarding and protecting children.

Sam Caine, community sports development officer, said: ’It continues to go from strength-to-strength thanks to the continued support from Sure.’

Students on the programme who log the highest number of hours from coaching at clubs and MSR organised activities will be able to compete for the Sure Sports Leader of the Year Award at next year’s Isle of Man Sport Awards.

Dr Alex Allinson, Minister for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture added: ’MSR continues to deliver a fantastic education programme to our young people - providing them with essential life skills that could lead to employment opportunities and help those moving into higher education.’

The award has been written as a national vocational qualification Level 2 course and MSR hopes to gain external accreditation to deliver future awards as NVQ qualifications.
