Applications for child benefit can now be made online as part of an ongoing project to modernise the delivery of social security services in the island.

The Isle of Man Government has introduced the latest online service to allow claimants to complete a child benefit application and upload supporting documents electronically.

Those wishing to use the service must first register for government online services before setting up a social security account. People who have not yet registered can do so through the government website.

The child benefit team is available to assist anyone who needs support completing an online application. They can be contacted on 685656 or by emailing [email protected].

The next benefit expected to become available to apply for online is Jobseeker’s Allowance, which is due to launch within the next four to six months.

The latest development follows the introduction of online services in recent years which allow secure two-way messaging and applications for Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Employed Person’s Allowance.

Treasury Minister Chris Thomas said: ‘The launch of online child benefit applications is another important step in the ongoing programme to modernise social security services and make it easier for people to access the support they are entitled to.

‘By enabling customers to apply online, upload documents securely and manage their claim digitally, we are providing a convenient and efficient service that better meets the expectations of today's users.’

The government said the online services provide an additional option for claimants, while people can continue to contact the social security team by calling 685656 or emailing [email protected].

Staff are also available in person at Markwell House in Douglas from Monday to Friday between 9am and 1pm.

A service is also available at Ramsey Town Hall on Tuesdays from 10am to 1pm and from 1.45pm to 4pm.
